Earth and space science education is undergoing a revolution, in terms of the science content and the methods and resources avaialble to teachers. The National Science Foundation funded a National Conference on the Revolution in Earth and Space Science Education to explore the nature and scope of this revolution, and to develop an action plan for long-term change in Earth and space science education throughout the nation. The conference took place June 21-24, 2001, with the participation of 60 key stake-holders, including experts in science, education and representatives from state and federal government agencies.
The report from the conference is available in computer-printable form (PDF file) by clicking below.

The conveners would like to express our appreciation to NSF Program Officers Mike Mayhew and Dottie Stout for their support of this project. This workshop would not have been possible without the energy, enthusiasm and ideas of the organizing committee and the working group facilitators who contributed substantially to the preparation of this report. Finally, we would like to thank our outstanding workshop participants, whose vision, dedication, and expertise have helped us to launch this Revolution in Earth and Space Science Education. Editing and compilation of the working group reports and recommendations were done by Harvey Yazijian. Layout, design and production were done by Sandy Schafer.
This "Blueprint for Change" report is dedicated to the memory of Dorothy Lalonde Stout, colleague, friend and catalyst for change.
